Full text reviewed (user-supplied PDF). Primary Devonian stratigraphy of the North-Western Karakoram (thrust sheets N and S of the Reshun Fault + Tash Kupruk Zone). Formally DEFINES the Vandanil Formation (~625 m dolostones/recrystallized limestones over the Baroghil Group slates; base ~latest Silurian/earliest Devonian, Pragian sulcatus-dehiscens Zone in its 4th of 5 lithozones, ?Givetian top). Chilmarabad Formation (two members: lower mixed siliciclastic-carbonate, upper ubiquitous stromatolitic dolostone; overlain with regional unconformity by the Shogrâm Fm). Shogrâm Formation (basal alluvial arenite/conglomerate -> marine bioclastic limestones + litharenites with coral bafflestones; mid-Givetian through Frasnian into ?Famennian). Charun Quartzite (Givetian-rifting turbidite quartzarenites). Palaeogeography: a wide calcareous platform on the Gondwana margin (Karakorum-Central Pamir-Badakhshan-Helmand), Givetian rifting with volcanics.

- Age: Gaetani et al. (2008): the Chilmarabad Formation (Gaetani et al. 1996) is divided into two members — a lower mixed siliciclastic–carbonate package (present in most southern/western thrust sheets) and a ubiquitous upper member of often-stromatolitic dolostones (the calcareous part of the Tash Kupruk Zone is similar facies). Its carbonate flats show a trend towards emersion at the top and are overlain, across a regional unconformity, by the basal Shogrâm Formation. Devonian; corroborates the curated age and adds the primary source.

- Age: Gaetani et al. (2008): the Shogrâm Formation begins with basal alluvial arenite and fine conglomerate, overlain by alternating marine bioclastic limestones and litharenites with one or two coral bafflestones; its lowermost part is Givetian, extending through the Frasnian and seemingly into the Famennian (the last poorly documented in the Karambar sections, contrasting with the classic Shogrâm/Kurâgh sections of Chitral). Gaetani et al. (2004) give the range as mid-Givetian to mid-Famennian. Corroborates the curated Middle–Late Devonian age.

- Age: Gaetani, Mawson, Sciunnach & Talent (2008) — the primary paper that FORMALLY DEFINES the Vandanil Formation (type section at Vandanil, Karambar thrust sheet): ~625 m of dolostones and recrystallized limestones lying above the black shales/siltstones of the Baroghil Group. Its base (scree-covered) approximates latest Silurian or earliest Devonian; conodonts prove a Pragian age (late sulcatus to dehiscens Zone) in the 4th of its 5 lithozones, with a ?Givetian top below the Chilmarabad Formation upper-dolostone member. Corroborates the curated Early Devonian (Pragian) age and ~625 m thickness; adds the definitional source (previously carried only on Zanchi & Gaetani 2011).
