Baintha group

Karakoram-Hindukush Basin · Southern Metamorphic Belt

A marble group along the Karakoram batholith–metamorphic complex contact near the Biafo glacier.

Baintha group is named after Baintha Brak Peak above the Biofo glacier, (and also the name of a summer pasture on the right bank of Biafo) and consists of massive beds of marble along the contact of Karakoram axial batholith with the metamorphic complex. At places it is intruded by granites. This group crops out near the middle part of Biafo glacier and may be traced towards the marble peak of Baltoro and farter westward to Chogo Lungma, Nagar and Hunza.

Significance. A marble group developed along the contact of the Karakoram axial batholith with the metamorphic complex; it crops out near the middle of the Biafo glacier and can be traced toward Baltoro, Chogo Lungma, Nagar and Hunza.
