Fossil group
Benthic foraminifera
Foraminifera · Cambrian – Recent
Sea-floor–dwelling foraminifera — single-celled marine protists that build a mineralised, often many-chambered shell (test). They range from tiny forms to the large, complex "larger foraminifera", and their assemblages track water depth, temperature and salinity.
