Fossil group

Pterosaurs

Mammals · Triassic – Cretaceous

Extinct flying reptiles — the pterosaurs — that ruled Mesozoic skies on wings of skin stretched from an enormously long fourth finger. They were the first backboned animals to achieve powered flight.

A broad fossil group rather than a single taxon — the units below record it among their fauna or flora.
