Shahkot formation consists of limestone and phyllite of Lower Paleozoic age (Tahirkheli, 1970). Hussain et al. (1989) declared as Precambrian.

A Late Precambrian limestone-argillite-shale unit of the Attock-Cherat and Gandghar Ranges, conformable with the underlying Manki Formation and the overlying Uch Khattak Formation.
